To boost the creation of the Public Education Network (PEN) that will connect all public schools and Department of Education (DepEd) offices nationwide, Senator Win Gatchalian  pushes for his ‘Education in the Better Normal’ bill’s passage which will help accelerate the education department’s digital transformation.

Senator Win Gatchalian is urging the government to take the offer of ABS-CBN for the use of its transmission network and educational programs to support the Department of Education’s (DepEd) Learning Continuity Plan (LCP), a move that he says would assist millions of households and learners when the school year opens on August 24.

Senator Win Gatchalian called on the government to seriously consider the construction of field hospitals to augment and increase the capacity of hospitals accommodating COVID-19 positive patients.

Amid the celebration of National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week, Senator Win Gatchalian is pushing to increase access to early interventions and diagnosis for learners with disabilities, especially now that the COVID-19 pandemic threatens their access to essential health and education services.

Senator Win Gatchalian is appealing to telecommunication giants Globe Telecom and Smart Communications to provide all learners with free connectivity to help in the roll-out of distance learning for the reopening of classes. 

Senator Win Gatchalian sees the need to heighten the campaign on the adverse effects of continued use of cigarette and tobacco products, especially among the youth, to lessen the risk of those vulnerable to COVID-19 infection.

Senator Win Gatchalian raised the urgency of giving government aid to struggling private schools as enrollment in these institutions reached only 24.3 percent from last year’s 4 million.

As cases of COVID-19 continue to rise, Senator Win Gatchalian stresses that there should be no let-up in providing aid to those who need it most, especially in Cebu City which is now considered as the epicenter of COVID-19 in the country.
