Senator Win Gatchalian has filed a resolution to determine the short, medium, and long-term effects on the power sector and consumers of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the national government set to replicate Valenzuela City’s inclusion of Persons Under Monitoring (PUMs) in mass testing activities, Senator Win Gatchalian said Local Government Units (LGUs) will be better equipped in tracking down asymptomatic carriers of COVID-19 as this is crucial in containing the virus.

Senator Win Gatchalian said the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Department of Health (DOH) should have a “safe school reopening plan” to prevent another surge of COVID-19 cases.

In the lead up to this year’s World Immunization Week, which takes place April 24-30, Senator Win Gatchalian called on Local Government Units (LGUs), especially the barangays, to ensure that immunization services are not compromised despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

Senator Win Gatchalian has commended the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) for swiftly acting on his call to undertake measures that will protect electricity consumers during the extended Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ), including the staggered payment of electricity bills.

As the Department of Education (DepEd) plans for the continuity of learning amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Senator Win Gatchalian has proposed an increased use of traditional broadcast media platforms such as television and radio to reach more of the country’s 27.2 million learners.

In its intent to leverage online platforms for continued learning delivery, Senator Win Gatchalian said the Department of Education (DepEd) should maximize using the same tool to provide psychosocial support to distressed learners especially with an extended Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ). 

Senator Win Gatchalian said the government needs to come up with a solution to ease the burden of Filipino households, whose electricity bills are expected to pile up after a month of reprieve especially that the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) has been extended.

With the incidence of new COVID-19 cases growing by the day, Senator Win Gatchalian said Local Government Units (LGUs) should lead in the fight against the dreaded COVID-19, emphasizing that Test, Quarantine and Treatment (TQT) are the steps that LGUs should take to stem the tide.
